Ceramic Cylinder Planter
This planter began as a series of thrown cylinders, each shaped on the wheel at seven inches wide, then carefully stacked, attached, and refined into a single form. The surface was smoothed and painted with underglaze. The imagery was then carved out of the underglaze. The story wraps fully around the planter, encouraging it to be experienced differently from each angle rather than sequentially. It starts with an explosion and states “The Worst Invasive Species is Us.” The pictures show the effects of industry on nature, leading back into the image of the explosion.
